Tasar 257 suffered badly in the recent storm that hit East Lothian Yacht Club in March - to the extent the insurers wrote her off Cry. As she is one of the earliest of the UK Tasars (as I understand things) I can't bring myself to 'skip' her, so was wondering if anyone wanted the hull as a labour of love restoration project. The hull is intact, but the deck down the port side is delaminated from the front of the cockpit. There are a few punctures in the outer skin of the hull, and she's in a bit of a sorry state. Before I commit the hull to the skip, does any one of you Tasar owners want it? I don't have the time, skills or the money, unfortunately.

Chris
I am sorry to hear about 257. I heard about the storm but was away and could not find any news reports on it. What happened exactly?

Could you add some pictures please. You can do this with the image button on your post. You can upload pictures up to 1000k each.

I am sure that there are people in the association who have the skills to fix 257.

Hi John
There was a big NE gale and a very high spring tide. 15' waves coming over the sea wall flooded the dinghy park to a depth of 2m or more, so boats were wrenched from their tie-downs (pulling rails and concrete out of the park surface) and then washing-machined against the walls of the park and other boats - you'll remember what the park is like. I thought 257 had escaped fairly lightly, but on examination, it proved not to be. Everything was in the boat as well. I have my dagger board and rudder, but a lot of the bit and pieces disappeared. Jib is OK but dirty, main is damaged along at least one of the batten pockets (but the sails weren't brill anyway). So, I have lots of spares, but a sad hull. I have the mast, but the top section and boom are foulded in a bitumen paint and I'm not sure I can get this stuff off easily.

Very nearly jumped ship to a Laser 2 yesterday, but am hoping to buy Alan Macdonald's boat next week, if everything is OK. His advert appeared just in time  and I saw it late last night.

Hi John

Yes 257 is free as seen...and it would be good to see the boat returned to sailing condition. It would be mean-minded to ask anything for it.

I'll try and sort some pics - I do have some somewhere, but can't find them - I think they're still on my son's camera. I'll post them to you when I find them - via email, rather than the forum.

If I buy Alan's boat (likely), I'll be collecting it from Cowdenbeath, as Alan has it there at the mo. I'm going to see it tomorrow.

If you're taking the boat to Tim, I wonder if you could collect it from me on the way - and would you need a trailer? I'd really like to try and sell mine (it's not a combi) to get some money towards some mylar sails (I have a launching trolley too). I can keep 257 here until you decide to go to Tim's.

I'll be sorry to see 257 go, but if Tim can make something of her, then great. Maybe one day, I'll buy her back, if he succeeds! I have stripped nearly all the fittings worth keeping to have as spares, though some are a bit tired.

Cheers

Chris
