The
Class ran a training day on 18 April at Clevedon SC which was a success. It was
arranged at fairly short notice so the turnout of 7 boats, which could have been
higher, was commendable. What was good to see, and an aim for the day was to see
experienced Tasar sailors come along trying to both raise their game and help
others. The session was not aimed at beginners- all too often classes just run
training for newcomers to the class. Currently
there is no organised training structure within the association. I think we want
to make training available to all levels in the class- from newcomers through to
those trying to improve their results at the world championships. The UK class
should have an aim of a British crew winning the World Championships in 2010 and
help to organise training to facilitate this. These
are my thoughts but we should - find
out what members want; we then can put some aims in place and build a structure
around this. We may want to have a look at what other association do. As an example, the RS association use experienced sailors in the class to
provide the training for newcomers, and reward those by providing a FOC day with
an 'expert' coach. Other experienced sailors can of course come along + pay. In addition the
RYA has recently introduced a 'Top Mark' initiative whereby they assist classes
by funding coaches. I will look into this. Nathan Batchelor |
